Conundrum.

You know, as much as I love St. Patty’s (and really any excuse-to-drink holidays), I gotta go with the poor Irish bartenders and feel the hate for stupid Americans during these times.

It might be a coincidence that most of my super fun St. Patty’s times have been when we’ve been super early to bars and places… so… before they get crowded with douchetards.

Went up to Fed Hill in Baltimore with some friends who were participating in a Lindy Promotions bar crawl (you pretty much pay for a wristband and you get extra discounts at participating bars) yesterday. Met them at Mad River, which honestly wasn’t too bad, as they had seats so we were at least AT the bar.

Of course, being a bar crawl, we then moved to Magerk’s, which, in general, I don’t have any problems with as a bar, but yesterday it was rather awful. The bar was 5 people deep, and there was an annoying group of meatheads who for some reason had to take up the space of their bodies (2 normal people spots) and then have about 6 inches of room around them from that (1 extra normal person) at the bar. Srsly, if you’re not getting a drink, at least compress yourself a bit against your bros so someone else can. No one even got anything to drink there, and then we moved on to Abbey Burger Bistro.

Abbey Burger, which, well, is awesome to begin with, was a ray of shining light from the heavens yesterday. It was… quiet. We got a… table. We got… food. Awesome. Oh, and the douche ratio was pretty low, all things considered. My friends and I (who were not participating in the sponsored pub crawl) would have been completely satisfied with staying there the majority of the time.

ALAS! We moved on to Stalking Horse, which wasn’t too bad, but since I was driving I was sober, so that’s the kind of place better enjoyed when you’re at least tipsy. Also, they had adult slushies which were interesting, but, again with the driving… I think I’d prefer to go back on a Tuesday night or whenever it’s not party time in Fed Hill.

So, in conclusion… as much as I love St. Patty’s, I really wish it was some sort of non-douche event. Which it’s not. I think the only way to escape is to find bars that cater to us non-Douches (like Abbey Burger… which honestly is a bit yuppyish, but yuppies are much easier to handle than douches in my opinion). The search continues…
